In order to protect our clothing during delivery, the items are put in a recycled polybag (plastic bag) and then in an FSC Recycled cardboard box.\

Grass Paper Letterbox Boxes
Our letterbox boxes are made of grass paper. Compared to conventional cardboard, which typically only uses wood pulp and recycled cardboard, grass paper can replace up to 50 percent of the wood pulp with dried grass fibers. Grass is a rapidly renewable resource, making the production of grass paper a more environmentally friendly option. The production process of grass paper also results in 50 percent less CO2 emissions compared to traditional cardboard. Additionally, up to 90 percent less water is consumed and 65 percent fewer chemicals are used in the production of grass paper. Furthermore, energy consumption in the production of grass paper is up to 30 percent lower.

Shipping Bags and Boxes
Our shipping bags and large boxes are made from fibers sourced from sustainably managed, certified forests (FSC forestry). FSC Recycled means that 100% of the fibers comes from recycled wood. This can be pre-consumer or post-consumer wood. Pre-consumer means wood or paper waste from during the production process (like cutting waste or wood remnants in a wood processing factory), post-consumer means after use (like scrap paper or used wood).

Polybags
All our polybags are made from recycled plastic. Recently, we have reduced the size of our polybags to reduce the amount of plastic used.

Furthermore, we instruct our suppliers to keep the use of plastic/(tissue) paper to a minimum. Every season, we inspect our warehouse to make sure that this instruction is being complied with. We also use paper tape instead of plastic tape while packing our boxes. 

 

Transportation

For the transportation of our goods, we also do our best to make choices that will have the least negative impact on the environment. For example, we have a ‘no-airfreight-policy’. This means that our clothes are transported by boat, train or truck 99% of the time.

 

From manufacturer to King Louie

Our goods that are produced in Turkey are first shipped over sea via the inter-global route to the port of Triëst (Slovenia). Next, the goods are shipped to North Germany by train. Here the goods are selected and shipped to Enschede (the Netherlands) via truck. This is where the warehouse of our fulfilment partner is located.

Transport from China arrives via ship in the port of Rotterdam. In Rotterdam, the goods are transferred to an inland vessel (most sustainable option) or a truck and transported to the warehouse. 

Due to delays in China as a result of energy shortages, Corona and a rapidly increasing consumption behavior, we have not been able to transport our goods with inland vessels lately. This option takes the most time. Since we want to avoid delays in our supply chain as much as possible, goods from China are transported from Rotterdam to our warehouse by truck at the moment. We hope that we’ll be able to use inland vessels again soon.

In the future, we want to transport goods from China by train (instead of by boat), so we can reduce the environmental impact even further. Due to the war between Russia and Ukraine, we can’t work on this project at the moment. The route of the train crosses these two countries.

 

Bicycle couriers – the greenest parcel delivery service

 

In some parts of the Netherlands, parcels can be delivered sustainably by a bicycle courier. If this option is available in your area, it will be visible during checkout. Delivery by a bicycle courier is safe, just as fast as standard mail, and it’s also better for the environment. 

 

 

What can you do yourself?

 

Try to make informed decisions while ordering new clothes, so that you won’t have to return any items. Pay close attention to the size and product specifications and contact us if you have any questions. Do you need to return an item after all? Please note that you can return multiple items in the same box.
